Jana Gillaspie
THORNTON, Colo. - Jana Mary Gillaspie-Saulsbury, 39, of Thornton, Colo., died June 21, 2004, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. Jana was born Jan. 2, 1965, in North Platte to Carroll and Avis Gillaspie. She attended Jefferson Elementary and was a graduate of North Platte High School Class of 1983. After graduation Jana attended Mid Plains Community College and Kearney State College. In 1986 she met her soul mate Kevin Saulsbury and moved to Austin, Texas where she worked at Baels' Department Store. The couple then moved to Rome, Ga., where she was a bank teller with a perfect balance record. Moving to Colorado in 1988, she continued her career in banking with the highest level of commitment including long commutes and lengthy bus waits. Exchanging her suits for a hardhat, Jana joined Kevin in industrial construction, working with cranes and rigging erecting iron and pre-cast structures. Her diligence outperformed most men of any size on the job site, entailing massive size and weight of tens of thousands of pounds and lengths up to 110 feet that she would guide into place with a rope. Jana continued to work side by side with Kevin, traveling throughout the mountains, prairies and cities of Colorado relaxing and taking in the sights and activities along the way. Jana loved spending time with her family, good friends, music, her kitty, Cyclone, and she adored Kevin. Her respect for wildlife and nature was displayed in her commitment to feed the many wild squirrels in the neighborhood. Survivors include her husband, Kevin Saulsbury of Thornton, Colo.; her mother, Avis Gillaspie of North Platte; a brother, Cary (Lynn) Gillaspie of Las Vegas; a sister, Marla (Chuck Berkis) Gillaspie of Lakewood, Colo.; a brother-in-law, Mike Saulsbury; sisters-in-law, Pat Snyder and Mary Haney; 15 nieces and nephews, Julie and Amy Gillaspie, Anthony, Michael and Crystal Conanat, Justin and Luke Steinwart, Darin and Ryan Gillaspie, Mandy Gibson, Kyle and Logan Baker, Miles Snyder, Nick Bryant and Hunter Haney.
